Wah Wah Wah is a 4 men psychedelic rock band formed by former DTSQ leader Kim Soo-hyun, Choi Woong-hee, a member of Silica Gel, currently one of the most notable rock bands in Korea, former DTSQ bassist Joonseop, and Dead Buttons drummer Seo Won-seok. Kim Soo-hyun, the leader of its former band DTSQ, which was highly active and recognized for its incredible live performances, launched a solo project in 2021 with the release of his first album, [Oh, Wow!], as a way to explore a new musical style. Later, the current members joined, transforming the project into a band.
In 2022, they released their second album, [Midnight Breakfast], which incorporates elements of surf rock and country rock. Recently, they released their third album, [Burnt Crispy Beats], influenced by krautrock, and have been actively continuing their musical journey. Additionally, the band has been hosting their own live show series, the Wah Wah Wah Show, which has reached its 8th edition, further showcasing their energetic live performances.
Their music combines the raw energy and tone of garage rock with the intricate and refined elements of progressive rock. While their sound may remind listeners of bands like King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, it carries a more intuitive and youthful energy that makes it uniquely powerful. Recently, they established their own record label, Goodboy Records, to distribute their music independently.
Moreover, the band has gained attention by collaborating with their fifth member and visual director, VJ Ohamking, who adds psychedelic visual elements to their performances.
During their live shows, they incorporate animations inspired by the liquid light shows that swept through New York clubs during the 1960s psychedelic era. These visuals, combined with their music, create an immersive experience that is rarely seen in Korea.
